奈良へ行きました。We went to Nara.

Last week, the English teachers spent two days in Nara.
先週同朋学校の英語の先生のみんなは奈良へ行きました。

Book Review

The following is a book review by one of the newspaper club members　これ以下は新聞部員が書いた書評です:

『むかし僕が死んだ家 』
　「流星の絆」や「ガリレオ」など、様々な作品がドラマ化、映画化されている人気作家、東野圭吾さんの作品です。彼は現在に至るまで数々の作品を世に送り出していますが、この作品はその中でも群を抜いて素晴らしいものだと思っています。
　高校時代に別れた恋人から、突然電話がかかってくる場面から物語は始まります。その恋人、倉橋沙也加は小学校に入学する前の記憶を失っており、父の死をきっかけに、なぜ自分に記憶がないのかという謎に改めて直面します。父の死後、父が隠していたものが発見されます。それは、真鍮の鍵と、ある家の在り処が記された地図。その家、を主人公とともに探索し、沙也加の失われた記憶の謎が次第に明らかになっていく・・・
という物語です。大半はその家の中で展開していき、「一幕劇」となっています。場面の変化はほぼ無いにも関わらず、読者を飽きさせない展開に、心躍らせながら、ページを繰る手は止まりませんでした。東野さんの筆力には脱帽ですね。
　物語の最初に張られた伏線が、後半になって次々と回収されていき、「あー、そういう訳だったのか！」と感嘆の声さえあげそうになりました。謎が謎を呼び、読み終わってもしばらく余韻に浸っていました。
　東野さんの作品群は穴がない、というか、様々なジャンルを幅広く発表しています。作品の解説で東野圭吾という作家についてこう語られています、苦手な分野があれば、それを徹底的に調べ上げ、あえてその方面に目を向けている、と。
　小説に限らず、人間には得意なことがあり、当然苦手なこともあります。苦手だからといって目を逸らしたら、ずっと苦手のままで、成長がありません。
　だからこそ、あえて苦手なものに取り組む姿勢が大切なのだと思います。それによって新たな自分が見出せることさえ、あるかもしれません。
東野さんの作品に対するそういった姿勢が、多彩な作風につながっているのだと思います。さらに、それこそが東野作品が人気を博している要因なのだと考えています。

みなさんも、東野作品の世界に浸ってみませんか。

ドーム祭典 The Dome Festival

Preparation began on Saturday at 9 am. Students and teachers loaded chairs and other equipment to be taken to the baseball dome.
土曜日の午前９時に準備が始まりました。生徒や先生たちが、ドーム球場に持っていくためのいすやその他のものを積み込みます。


On Sunday, students began arriving at around 8am to begin rehearsals or to help set up the many food stalls.
日曜日、朝８時ごろから、準備やリハーサルのための生徒が集まり始めます。
The participants included people of all ages, from nursery to nineties, and performances ranged from the traditional to the modern.
幼児から９０歳台まで、幅広い世代の人たちが集まりました。パフォーマンスも、伝統的なものから現代的なものまで、さまざまです。

The event was a great success. Everybody who participated worked hard to make sure that the people who paid for tickets weren't disappointed!

イベントは大成功でした。取り組んだ人は皆、チケットを買ってくれた人が満足してくれるよう、一生懸命働きました。

Pre-Dome on Culture Day

１１月１５日（日）に行われる『ドーム祭典』（教育の公平を求める大イベント!!）に向けて私立に通う高校生たちが集結し、名古屋の中心部をパレードを行った。彼らは教育の公平を求めて声をあげた。
As a prelude to a huge awareness raising event organized by private high schools in Nagoya and held at the Nagoya Baseball Dome on the 15th of this month, the private schools association organized a rally that included many events and a march through the central streets of Nagoya. Here is a taster of the days events in pictures:

No Borders Outside

If you had come to the school culture festival (titled 'No Borders') last weekend, you would have seen:
The unity gate, A 6.3m high Mona Lisa made from empty paper drinks packs,

A full size version of the famous 'Nana-Chan' doll near Nagoya station in our school uniform,

And the outside stage with a design made entirely from painted eggshells.

'No Borders' was a message of peace, and students in each class worked long hours each day to prepare a display in their classrooms on themes as diverse as 'The Homeless', 'Okinawan Culture' and 'The Galaxy'. See a few more photos on the school website (Japanese) here.

The Judo Club

The Judo Club doesn’t just help to practice Judo. Through training, it will help us to become functioning members of society. Based on the principle of doing what need to be done, the Judo club continues to work hard from early morning.We train hard every day from till late at night to reach national competition standard under the guidance of Toyama sensei and Nakata sensei. During the summer holidays we take part in a variety of competitions. Whatever the competition, we try to play to our highest level.

柔道部は、柔道の技術向上だけでなく、柔道を通して将来社会で通用する人間になることを目指しています。当たり前のことを当たり前にできる部活をモットーに柔道部は今日も朝から頑張ります。
自分たち柔道部は、全国大会で戦うことに標準をあわせて顧問の藤山先生、中田先生ご指導のもと毎日朝早くから夜遅くまで練習に励んでいます。夏休みは金鷲旗、インターハイ、柔有旗、私学祭と大会がつまっています。どの大会でも日ごろの練習の成果を発揮して力いっぱいプレーしてきたいと思います。
