"We get to know the students well, and they always give us a cheery 'Hello'."
What do you think is good about Doho High School?
"The students and teachers are very friendly, and the school buildings are very nice."

Girls On Film

Last week, Doho became host to a film crew from Tokyo for a day. They used the sports hall, classrooms and other locations in the high school for filming, and the girls basketball team became extras for a day. The photograph shows the 16 year old actress being checked by the stylist and hair/make-up ladies.

先週、東京からの映画制作スタッフを我が校に迎えた。彼らは我が校の女子バスケットボール部員をエキストラに起用し、体育館や教室など校内で撮影を行なった。写真は、１６歳の主役の少女がスタイリストとヘアメイクに、彼女の衣装とヘアのチェックを受けているところ。

¿Te gusta el fútbol? Do you like football? Last week our football club drove 5 hours to Hakuba, Nagano, and spent 3 days with another high school from Kyoto being coached in attack and defence strategies by a coach from Valencia in Spain.

Summer Seminar

「サマーセミナーは、誰でも講師になれ、誰もが生徒になり、本当に学びたいことを学んだり、いつも疑問に思っていることをいっしょに考えたりできる「夢の学校」です。」 （サマーセミナーのホームページへ。）
“The Summer Seminar is a ‘Dream School’, where anybody can become a teacher or a student and learn something they really want to learn, or work together with others to answer the questions the have always wanted answered.”

今年度のサマーセミナーは同朋学園で行われた。講師や生徒として名古屋のさまざまな高校や大学から多くの人々が参加しに来ました。
This year our high school hosted the yearly Summer Seminar event. Thousands of students from many different schools and colleges in Nagoya came to take part in the event as instructors or students.

パキスタンからの留学生がクリケットを教えに来ました。Students from Pakistan studying in Japan came to teach Cricket!


ネールアーティストがネールケアを教えに来ました。Nail artists came to teach nail care.


生徒が珍しいものを見に来ました。Students came to see something different.

What do you see?

We asked students to mail us any interesting photographs they have taken using the camera on their mobile phone. This month we are using the above photo in the school newspaper sent to us by one of the third grade students who thought that the cloud in the middle looked like a whale.

私（わたし）たちは携帯電話（けいたいでんわ）で撮った（とった）面白い写真（おもしろいしゃしん）を送って（おくって）くれるよう生徒（せいと）の皆さん（みなさん）にお願い（おねがい）しました。３年生の一人の生徒が「雲（くも）が鯨（くじら）みたいに見える（みえる）」と、送ってくれました。しばらくはこの写真（しゃしん）を使います（つかいます）。

吹奏楽部 The Wind Instrument Club

吹奏楽部（すいそうがくぶ）は現在（げんざい）、４階（よんかい）の音楽室(おんがくしつ) で毎日（まいにち）のように練習（れんしゅう）をしています。The Wind Instrument Club practices everyday in the music room on the fourth floor.
私たち（わたしたち）の主な（おもな）目標（もくひょう）は、夏（なつ）のコンクールや文化祭（ぶんかさい）、３月（さんがつ）におこなっている定期演奏会（ていきえんそうかい）で、お客さん（おきゃくさん）に喜んでもらえる（よろこんでもらえる）演奏（えんそう）をすることです。
We are practicing for performances at the forthcoming summer competition, the school culture festival and the final concert at the end of the school year next March.
今（いま）は、７・８月（しち：はちがつ）のコンクールに向けて（むけて）練習をしています。普段（ふだん）の練習はすべて自分たち（じぶんたち）で進めていっている (すすめていっている) ので、うまくいかなかったり、悩んだり（ないあんだり）することもありますが、今年（ことし）こそは金賞（きんしょう）が取れる（とれる）ように頑張っています（がんばっています）。
At the moment we are practicing for the summer competition. We usually organize and practice without the teacher’s help, and so there are sometimes problems, but we are determined to get first prize this year.

Do you know "校長"?

新しく生まれ変わった同朋高校新聞部の最初の活動は、校長先生にインタビューして、校長先生のプライベートと学校生活について聞くことでした。このインタビューは、今月発行の新聞の表紙を飾りました。
The first activity of the newly formed Doho Newspaper club was to interview the headmaster (校長先生　こうちょう　せんせい）about his private and school life. This interview became the front page of the first edition of the school newspaper this month.

(Where are you from? In Kita-Ward, Nagoya, near Hachioji Junior High School.)

(Why are there two deputy headmasters in our school? Doho is about three times larger than a regular junior high school so there is a lot more work for the deputy headmasters to do.)
校長（こうちょう）としての仕事（しごと）はどのようなものですか？　学校全体（がっこうぜんたい）の教育方針（きょういくほうしん）を決定（けってい）する。他（た）の学校（がっこう）との連絡（れんらく）を取り合う（とりあう）。
(What are your responsibilities as headmaster? I have to make decisions about school policy and maintain a good working relationship with other schools.)
